Hold Up! 2020 Is Not Over Yet
This year was supposed to be an amazing year. It began with an optimistic to-do list and lots of achievable goals. We were going to get so much accomplished and make so many family & friends memories. Everything was well-planned out until the year took a different turn.
Heard that so many people, myself included, are complaining that 2020 is the worst year due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and multiple tragedies, including the Australian Fire, Kobe’s passing, the killing of George Floyd which sparked worldwide protests against racism or known as Black Lives Matter (BLM) protest. However, what they don’t realize is that humanity went through worse.
The years when WWI and WWII started, for instance, were considered by many to be the lowest moments in human history and I get why, considering those were a massive bloodbath resulting in a huge slap of reformation all across the countries.
But, believe what I say this year is also going to be one of those transformative decades in all of human history. Both positive and negative. Yes, it all happened very quickly. A catastrophic change that we didn’t see coming; Rapid spike of coronavirus cases, sudden deaths from people around us, businesses going broke, people getting laid off from their jobs, people losing their homes, relationships being tested, a series of difficult events happened throughout these past 6 months.
Although 2020 started with a bang (in a negative way) and not a single positive thing could be digested, I also believe that this year is nothing compared to what people went through in years like WWI and WWII, Smallpox, and the Spanish Flu diseases era.
So, changing our perspective on the way we see these tragedies may help us shape a different understanding and change the way we respond to them. I know I know, finding the good in pain does nothing to minimize the pain, but at least, we can give it a purpose. Speaking from experience, seeing the good is not easy, especially when you are in the midst of a devastating moment. Losing everything incredibly quickly is like being struck by lightning, but holding onto what is lost will only prevent us from moving on, instead learn to accept and do things differently to improve the way we live our lives to survive. Remember that, humans are equipped with an extraordinary ability to adapt. We are, in fact, the most adaptive species on earth. So, get your gears ready!
Closing remarks. We don’t always expect what is given to us in life. But there is a reason, and whatever that reason may be, there is a chance that we can learn from it. After all, we still have 6 more months until 2020 ends, so things might get better. Only time will tell for sure.
With love,
R
